Certificate II
in Work Education
Course Outline
This course is designed for people with intellectual disabilities who are interested in entering the workforce and would like to learn extra skills to support them in the workplace or for more training and confidence to support them with their chosen pathway.
The Certificate II in Work Education is intended to support post compulsory school aged students with permanent intellectual disabilities to develop employment ready skills, knowledge and behaviours.
The course covers safe work practices, independent travel skills, customer service, how to investigate job opportunities, understand workplace expectations and provide skills in teamwork, communication, and personal skills.and students get to undertake work placement.
The Certificate II in Work Education 22481VIC is a nationally recognised training qualification.
- Three (3) Core units,
- One (1) WHS/OHS Stream, and;
- Four (4) Elective units

All assessment is conducted in class and through excursions and work placement.
Trainer and assessor support is provided at all times along with office and other stakeholder support.
All students are provided with relevant information and support to complete assessment requirements for the course with dedicated trainer and assessor support as well as the support from the students community support workers.
Assessment will cover:
- Multiple choice questions
- Reflecting
- Short answers
- Worksheets to their level of understanding to support their needs and consolidation of learning
- On the job tasks and observation questions and reports completed by the student and supervisor
At prospED, our ultimate goal is your success. To ensure that you have the necessary skills to support your learning journey. Each student will undergo a pre-training review which will assist in determining if the course is the most suited to each individual’s needs and aspirations.
Entry Requirements
Entry to the 22481VIC Certificate II in Work Education is restricted to post compulsory school age learners with evidence of a permanent cognitive impairment / intellectual disability.
Permanent cognitive impairment / intellectual disability must be evidenced. Evidence could include but is not limited to:
- Formal assessment by a registered medical practitioner
- Doctors / specialist reports
- Attendance at a Specialist School / SDS
- Integration support at school
- Integration support at school with modified curriculum
While learners may also have the following conditions, these alone do not constitute a permanent cognitive impairment / intellectual disability:
- Social and / or emotional issues
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Specific learning difficulties
- Mental health conditions
- Physical disabilities
Other requirements include:
Language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skill assessment to support individual needs.
Study Requirements
Students will be provided with all resources to support them in the tasks they will undertake within the classroom environment as well as when undertaking excursions.
Upon successful completion of the 22481VIC Certificate II In Work Education Course with prospED, each student will receive a certificate or statement of attainment for the qualification or unit they undertook that is nationally recognised.

This course will improve employment opportunities and ensure students feel more prepared to enter the workforce.
Once the course is completed, they can pathway into other Certificate II courses or look at entry level employment.
This course provides our students with the empowerment to see their personal achievements and to build on their skills and personal worth.
prospED offer 22481VIC Certificate II In Work Education Services, in the following study modes and times:
Face to Face
The duration for Certificate II in Work Education is 24 months (inclusive of 250 hours of placement)
- Students will attend class once a week equivalent to 6 hours a week of class time
- Students will require time for assessments in class and with a support worker
- Students will undertake excursions with class and support workers to consolidate learning
- Training frequency allows for students to have sufficient time to use the resources to develop their capabilities.

There is comprehensive student support for all students undertaking foundation skills training and they are given support to complete all assessments in class. Individualised training plans are created for students.
- Student support is available and if it is outside the capacity of the RTO, we will refer to services as needed and work in conjunction with the support worker and service provider.
- We provide paper based access for our foundation skill students as well as being able to learn more about computer access and development of documents with trainer and assessor and support worker support.
Student support can be provided on the following, but not limited to:
- Telephone or email support
- LLN support
- IT support
- Study skills support
- Any reasonable adjustment provisions
- Personal student support.
