in Work Education
Course Outline
This course is designed for people with intellectual disabilities who are interested in entering the workforce or are transitioning from school into the workforce and would like extra skills to help them.
Certificate I in Work Education is excellent for students to gain independence, community awareness and to learn about career opportunities or other courses that can be studied.
The course covers job seeking, communication, digital technology and simple documents, job seeking activities and practical placement to learn more about jobs.
The Certificate I in Work Education 22566VIC is a nationally recognised training qualification.
To obtain the 22566VIC Certificate I in Work Education, students must complete a total of 10 units of competency, consisting of:
- Seven (7) core units,and;
- Three (3) elective units
Our elective units have been carefully selected based on industry requirements, student career aspirations, and feedback from both students and our trainers and assessors.

Work Placement
There is a 700 hour work placement requirement as part of the Certificate I in Work Education 22566VIC.
All assessment is conducted in class and through excursions and work placement.
Trainer and assessor support is provided at all times along with office and other stakeholder support.
All students are provided with relevant information and support to complete assessment requirements for the course with dedicated trainer and assessor support as well as the support from the students community support workers.
Assessment will cover:
- Multiple choice questions
- Reflecting
- Short answers
- Worksheets to their level of understanding to support their needs and consolidation of learning
- On the job tasks and observation questions and reports completed by the student and supervisor.
At prospED, our ultimate goal is your success. To ensure that you have the necessary skills to support your learning journey. Each student will undergo a pre training review which will assist in determining if the course is the most suited to each individual’s needs and aspirations.
Entry Requirements
Entry to the Certificate I in Work Education is intended for post compulsory school age learners with evidence of permanent cognitive and / or intellectual disability.
In exceptional circumstances compulsory school age learners with evidence of permanent cognitive and / or intellectual disability may be enrolled in the qualification, provided the Registered Training Organisation can establish:
- The learner’s Secondary School is unable to meet their needs and
- The learner has a level of behavioural maturity that would allow them to develop the communication and interpersonal skills expected in the workplace.
Permanent cognitive and / or intellectual disability must be evidenced.
Evidence could include but is not limited to:
- Formal assessment by a registered medical practitioner
- Doctors / specialist reports
- Attendance at a Specialist School
- Integration support at school
- Integration support at school with modified curriculum
- While learners may also have the following conditions, these do not
- constitute a permanent cognitive or intellectual disability:
- Social and / or emotional issues
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Specific learning difficulties
- Mental health conditions
- Physical disabilities
Other requirements include:
Language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skill assessment to support individual needs.
Upon successful completion of the 22566VIC Certificate I In Work Education Course with prospED, each student will receive a certificate or statement of attainment for the qualification or unit they undertook that is nationally recognised.

- 22476VIC Certificate I in General Education for Adults (Introductory) The qualification could lead students to further studies in: Certificate II courses.
prospED offer 22566VIC Certificate I In Work Education Services, in the following study modes and times:
Face to Face
The duration for Certificate II in Work Education is 24 months (inclusive of 700 hours of placement)
- Students will attend class once a week equivalent to 6 hours a week of class time
- Students will require time for assessments in class and with a support worker
- Students will undertake excursions with class and support workers to consolidate learning
- Training frequency allows for students to have sufficient time to use the resources to develop their capabilities.

There is comprehensive student support for all students undertaking foundation skills training and they are given support to complete all assessments in class. Individualised training plans are created for students.
- Student support is available and if it is outside the capacity of the RTO, we will refer to services as needed and work in conjunction with the support worker and service provider.
- We provide paper based access for our foundation skill students as well as being able to learn more about computer access and development of documents with trainer and assessor and support worker support.
Student support can be provided on the following, but not limited to:
- Telephone or email support
- LLN support
- IT support
- Study skills support
- Any reasonable adjustment provisions
- Personal student support.
